This version of the show, with it's revised book by Stephen Fry, was first presented in 1985 staring Robert Lindsay and Emma Thompson at the Leicester, Haymarket and later at the Adlephi Theatre in London where it enjoyed an extremely long and successful run with such stars as Gary Wilmot, Les Dennis and Brian Conley taking over the lead role.
