BILLY

Billy is based on the book 'Billy Liar' which was made into a film in the early 60's starring Tom Courtney and Julie Christie

It was later made into a musical, with book by Ian Le Francis and Dick Clement. These two are of course responsible for many classic comedies such as 'Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Porridge and The Likely Lads - to name but a few.  The musical went into the West End and starred Michael Crawford and Elaine Paige.

Billy Fisher lives with his Mum, Dad and Gran in Stradhoughton and is an undertaker's clerk - but when the reality of his boring life gets too much, he disappears into the world he dreams of living in, where he is president of his imaginary country of Ambrosia, a film star, a script writer - and anything else that happens to occur to him!

However, nobody else believes him, certainly neither Barbara or Rita both of whom he is engaged to though there is only one engagement ring! He frantically tries to lie his way out so he can run away with Liz, the only girl that understands him, but we know he'll never quite make it.

Billy was presented at The Barn Theatre, Southwick from 10th-14th October 2006
